Getting to Mangareva

The Gambier Islands are a long way from everywhere, but they’re easily accessible by plane. After a 3h40 flight, you land on motu Totegegie, which is fair distance from the main island, Mangareva. A 40 minute shuttle service run by the local authorities ferries you to the quayside at Rikitea, and your accommodation will be able to pick you up from there.

Getting around in Mangareva

You can rent a car in Rikitea village, but as Mangareva is a small island, most visitors don’t find it necessary, prefering instead to visit the island by bike or on foot. Guided tours will take you to visit the other islands in the archipelago.
