The largest island of the Society Islands in French Polynesia, and most popular, is the island of Tahiti. With its endless activities to choose from and places to see it’s no wonder some visitors never make it off the main island. 

From exploring the beaches of Tahiti Iti, Tahiti’s smaller, less populated sister island on the southern coast to its bigger twin, Tahiti Nui. Tahiti Nui is more popular and closer to Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia. 

If you’re itching for adventure, you can hike Mount Aorai, the second tallest peak in French Polynesia. It is a volcanic peak on the Island of Tahiti and features hiking & climbing routes. While the mountain offers some of the most beautiful views in the world, the hike is a 9.5 mile out and back trail, so be sure to plan accordingly. 

Once you have explored Tahiti island, you can hop over to Bora Bora and stay a night in an overwater bungalow or take an unforgettable lagoon tour. Then jump on a less than an hour flight from Bora Bora to the island of Moorea to take in the incredible natural landscapes.
